You moved into a home with a pre-existing security system
Sometimes when people purchase a house, a modern security system is already installed. All the devices function well, are placed in the best spaces, and are ready to go. In this instance, you might find that you have to call and start a new contract. A Vivint installer will still come to your home to make sure there are no integration issues, and they may offer options on an upgrade or two. It's a preliminary visit, and you can get your 24/7 monitoring set up without paying for any new components -- unless you get some new devices.
The old homeowners can move an existing Vivint contract to your family for a nominal transfer fee to make the process easier. If the previous owners are downsizing to an apartment complex or retirement community, you keeping the home security contract might be a part of the sale.
You need to move and take your existing equipment with you
You might want to bring along your old Vivint system with you to your new house when you move. Luckily, it's fairly easy to transfer, as modern components are portable. You can remove each device by yourself or use a professional installer to dismantle your devices. Then our installers will hang the same devices -- and any additions you want to put in -- in the new house. And your home security contract will keep the same.
